Is it wrong to dress as a Native person on Halloween or Thanksgiving? What about Native Mascots? Or what about those Native themed colloquialisms we grew up hearing or saying? What do we do if our school has a Native themed mascot and it is accepted as "normal?" Listen in as we share information and experiences that will help you grow and understand the difference between Native Appropriation  & Native Appreciation. September 30th is the National Day of Remembrance for Native Boarding Schools. Regardless of what you thought you knew (about boarding schools) or have been told, please listen to this episode. It was a difficult one to make for many reasons. We wanted to paint an accurate picture, tell real stories, and do so in a respectful and honoring way. We also wanted to share enough information to give you an accurate picture of the atrocities that faced those in these government and church ran boarding schools. You will also hear interviews and real life stories of those still affected today.

Or maybe you have spent your life with a certain view on a specific subject only to realize that wasn’t the whole picture? Or when learning about other cultures, have you ever realized that everything that shaped your framework was taught to you by people who looked like you, talked like you, and had the same life experience as you and nothing that you knew about the culture was actually taught from people within that culture? If you desire for that to change or you want to learn more about Native culture from a different perspective, this podcast season is for you. This season, we will explore several topics, focus on difficult aspects of history, and do our best to help you better understand the culture of the people we serve. You will hear how historical trauma endured by Native people is still affecting their lives and communities to this day. We pray that this will be an eye-opening season as you hear the voices of people we love, serve, and have a wealth of knowledge to share with us. Please listen with an open mind, willing heart, and a desire to know and do better.

For this episode, Eric is back in Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi. Listen in as he speaks with three young refugees who are fighting to advocate for and bring awareness to the plight facing many refugees today. They share their thoughts, their frustrations, and parts of their refugee story. They also spend a great deal of the conversation discussing the forced relocation of refugees inside Malawi. We are certain that you will learn a great deal just by listening. This episode may also challenge you and at times make you uncomfortable.
